Fluid Bed Dryer in Pharma Industry

Fluid bed dryers, as the name implies, are used to dry products such as granules, tablets, powders, fertilizers, and plastics. They can also be used to dry a variety of other materials.   FBD Fluid bed dryers operate on the principle of fluidization, which is the process by which a material is transformed from a static solid-like state to a dynamic fluid-like state. In this method, hot gas or air is injected into the region containing the material through a perforated distribution plate. This hot gas flows through the crevices between solid particles, causing them to expand and contract. In proportion to the rise in gas or air velocity, the upward forces exerted on the particles increase, forcing them to equalize with the gravitational forces exerted below them.   This results in a state of fluidization, in which the particles are suspended in what appears to be a boiling bed of liquid, creating the appearance of a bubble. Previously impermeable objects can now ...

Fluidized Bed Dryers - Types and Advantages

Fluidized bed dryers (also known as fluid bed dryers) are a type of equipment that is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to reduce the moisture content of pharmaceutical powders and granules. The device operates on the principle of fluidization of the materials being fed into it. A perforated bed of moist solid particulates is used in the fluidization process, and hot air is delivered at high pressure through it. In this process, the moist solids are lifted from the bottom and suspended in an airstream (fluidized state). Direct contact between the moist solid and the hot gases results in heat transfer. The drying gases pick up the evaporated liquid and carry it away.   Fluidized-Bed Dryers Configurations   There are many different varieties of fluid bed dryer processors , and being knowledgeable with the specific characteristics of each type allows one to make a rational and cost-effective decision when selecting a fluidized bed dryer for a particular drying ...

Hot Melt Extrusion and Its Pharmaceutical Application

Hot Melt Extrusion is a production technology that was first developed in the early 1930s for usage in the plastics and food sectors but is now gaining traction in other industries as well, including the pharmaceutical business. After first being used in the pharmaceutical business in the 1930s, hot-melt extrusion has attracted increasing attention from the pharmaceutical industry and academia because it allows for the continuous production of a wide range of dose formulations. Recently, the technique has been employed in the pharmaceutical business for the development of innovative medical devices and medications. The procedure can be used to make substances for the development of therapeutic drug-eluting devices, as well as to combine active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with polymers, which increases the bioavailability of APIs while also masking their bitter taste.   Hot Melt Extrusion Pharmaceutical   What is Hot Melt Extrusion, and how does it a...

Process of Single Screw Extruder

When it comes to polymer manufacturing operations, single screw extrusion is one of the most common. The primary purpose of a  single screw extruder machine  is to increase the pressure in the polymer melt, allowing the polymer to be extruded through the die as quickly as possible. The majority of single screw extruders are plasticating, which means that the solid resin balls or powders melt in the screw as a result of the pressure applied by the screw threads. Some single screw systems, on the other hand, may be utilized for mixing as well. When working with pure polymers such as HDPE, a single screw extruder is advantageous.   Extrusion Process: A single screw extruder is composed of a screw, a barrel, a driving mechanism, a resin feed system, and controls, among other components. The resin is moved through the heated barrel by the continually revolving screw, where it is heated to the right temperature and combined into a...
